In a recent poll American's trusted the militry most. That plays right into the hands of the MIC. 71% of people agreed with Bush's decision to invade Iraq as Michael Kinsley pointed out recently in an article "blame the people".

All a politician in America needs to do is wrap themselves in the flag, military and god and talk about how bad government is and we need to lower taxes and they can win. And as long as they are not a witch and don't drool, anything else they say is ignored by the electorate.

That has been a winning formula for the Republicans for 40 years. Liberals keep trying to talk sense e.g. you cannot just always cut taxes, or have senseless wars, but they always lose when they make those arguments.

What I find perplexing is that people talk about how terrible congress is and it needs to change, but then vote in incumbants over 90% of the time; and people seem oblivious to this contradiction?
