I was listening to an author on NPR yesterday describe how Glenn Beck is basically resurrecting the weird conspiracies of the John Birch Society, and getting a lot of traction with them in the Tea Party - most of whom are totally ignorant of that history. Example - Dwight Eisenhower was a communist! npr.org The first time around, the JBS was squashed and ostracized by the Republican Party, since they actually DID want to assume power sometime in the future. But THIS time, they're too cowed to take them on, in their new "Tea Party" guise.
