Momentum slipping away from Brazil's Rousseff

BRASILIA, Oct 14 (Reuters) - Ruling party presidential
candidate Dilma Rousseff is losing momentum in Brazil's runoff
vote, as corruption scandals and her views on social issues
narrowed her lead to just 4 percentage points in a new poll
released on Thursday. The survey by polling firm Sensus was the latest to show Rousseff's support receding quickly from the 20-point lead she
held over her challenger, opposition candidate Jose Serra, in
late August. Rousseff had 46.8 percent support while Serra had 42.7
percent, Sensus said. The runoff will take place Oct. 31. Clesio Andrade, the head of the National Confederation of
Transport, which commissioned the poll, called the result a
"technical tie" after taking into consideration the margin of
error of plus or minus 2.2 percentage points. Other polls taken this week have shown Rousseff with a
healthier lead of 6 to 8 percentage points. Yet the overall trend has been the same: Long considered
the prohibitive front-runner in the election, Rousseff is
suffering a clear erosion in support that has breathed new life
into Serra's campaign and may force financial markets to
rethink an election many had written off as over.
