Here's a back-of-the-napkin calculation:

Say you had a 5000 foot route. The transit time via microwave would be 2.3 microseconds faster than fiber over the same 5000 foot distance. You'd have to cut the fiber route distance by a bit under 1500 feet to match the transit time of the microwave link.

(This assumes all else is equal, e.g. receiver/ processing /demod time is the same for fiber and microwave, which it probably isn't, but I don't know what the differential is)
