You know, there is only one significant obstacle that I can think of that stands in the way of any takeover of ASND within 5 months: the partially-digested CSCC aquisition. It seems to me that any suitor would be better off sitting back and allowing ASND to completely meld the two companies together, before stepping in and taking over ASND...otherwise, you make an already complicated procedure, even more so.
It seems apparent, that ASND isn't going to be zooming back up to the 40s anytime soon (yes, Tim, I think you pretty much have that bet in the bag), so there is no rush to takeover ASND unless it is to beat a competitor to the punch...so concerns over an increasing likelihood of higher bid prices to take out the company, seem minimal at best.
Gary offered some excellent analysis and hypothetical scenarios of what may or may not be brewing behind the scenes. Surely if CPQ or another such entity is looking hungrily at ASND, Gary probably has their gameplan down.
At this point, I would gladly accept $25 a share in equity in a stock swap with a strong giant such as NT (what's that, about a 1 for 3 exchange ratio?) who's net income alone, is over $5 billion a year. I would be satisfied with my new shares appreciating on their own accord and returning my lost capital to me.
If ASND had already seamlessly assimilated CSCC into its operations, I would anticipate a takeover/merger at these levels...but since that isn't the case, it appears a half-digested CSCC means heartburn for any larger fish.
