Like who? You really have no clue what it's like in the corporate world. The focus is on the bottom line and whatever it takes to get there.
You really need to get a grip. I have just as much if not more experience in the corp. world than you do.
In my company, we (ideally) get there through innovation. True, Intel has become quite bloated in its bureaucracy, but executives here are aware of the problems and constantly try to fix them.
And you think its different in gov't? Its you who doesn't have a clue. Despite what you're corrupted'dysfunctional party tells you, gov'ts live by budgets and their spending is limited. And yes, manyy gov'ts are innovative.
I am sure you hit Third Steet in Santa Monica during your stay in the Southland. Who the hell do you think revived Third Street? INTC? Disney? AAPL? No way, jose. It was a gov't agency. They went through a whole process done in stages that took what had been a street down in the dump for years......a street that was the center for the homeless and pawn shops, and turned it into THE most vibrant shopping and entertainment street in SM. Oh yeah.....they grew the tax base as well:

How does that compare with government bureaucracies, which are only formed for the preservation of the status quo? You can't reorganize without a act of legislation. You can't let people go without public employee unions raising a stink.

At my previous job location, two people I knew got "redeployed." Good people who got the short end of business realities. If I knew that I was going to voluntarily relocate here later, I would have saved one of their jobs and volunteered to be redeployed in their place. But that really is not my decision to make.
Don't tell me your sad stories. I worked for a company where half the employees were let go......125 employees...in two days. Ever heard of a RIF [Reduction in Force].......that's when gov't does wholesale layoffs. Ever watch a gov't agency get RIFed. Just as many tears as when the private sector lays off. You've got nothing on me or gov't employees.
Had this been a government bureaucracy, though, those two coworkers of mine could have just demanded that they keep their jobs. Then management would have come up with "busy work" to keep them happy and maintain an illusion of productivity. In my short time in the public sector, I know that this is exactly what government does, and there's no way I can ever get used to that no matter how hard I try. It's just counterintuitive and counterproductive, but hey, that's the nature of big government and other organizations deemed "too big to fail." Intel is big, but it sure isn't too big to fail.
What other lies does the GOP tell you, Ten? Keep sucking at the GOP teat so you can stay misinformed.
There are other factors behind my move here as well, but the bottom line is that I'm not going to be the one left holding the bag when cuts have to be made. And I will make some personal sacrifices, including my home, to maintain an ever advancing career path and stay ahead of the game.
Because the alternative is to get laid off, live off the government dole, and whine on Internet forums about how the rich get richer. Or get a steady government job where one doesn't even have to try hard to maintain job security. Just look at your local DMV and compare it to, say, the Apple Store. There is no comparison.
Think about that the next time you want to compare me to a government bureaucrat. Or better yet, think about actually going out into the real world for a change.
