Fred - Thanks for the additional info from Power '97 and AEA. Aside from the compelling arguement re startup costs, it seems to me the issue of time to market would be critical to these Japanese manufacturers. It may be tough to turn down a process that's refined and ready to go.

On a different topic brought up earlier today, related to the company's cautious stance on capabilities...

Going back to several of your old posts, I'm trying to reconcile the company's earlier statements re line capacity with their recent figures for the laminate machinery, which you mentioned in post #1292 (60 million cells for 3 lines or 20 million cells per line.)

Quite some time ago (ref your post #93) the company stated the capacity of the high speed lines as 21 million cells per year.
Then, after a conference call last summer, these numbers were revised downward (your posts #816 and #1209) to about 12 million/yr for 3 shifts. The company has further reduced this to 8 million/yr, but this last figure could refer to just 2 shifts.

Given the discrepancy here - and the company's inclination toward understatement - it would be very helpful to get a more accurate idea of line capacity as we enter the production phase. Who knows...Valence could be gearing up for an output more similar to the figures floated early on. The visibility of line capability surely should be improving for the company, and analysts & shareholders alike will want to work up some accurate numbers for the future. Can you or anyone assist with updated line capacity figures?

Many thanks,
Bill
