The reason I like the electric car is that I can charge it with my own PV system. My longest trip that I've driven in the last three years was about 175 miles round trip. 90% of my driving is less than 30 miles round trip. I'm retired and can afford being an early adaptor. If the power goes out (the grid) no problem. Here in the Seattle area a few years ago a third of the greater Seattle area had no power for many days after a very bad windstorm. Gas pumps couldn't run so cars could not get gas.

In the case of someone generating their own power from PV's no problem.

Life as usual. More and more folks who live off the grid understand that fact.
