So why is California having $ problems? Why can't we balance a budget? Business bad?

Maybe we don't tax commensurate with our economy. Should the 8th largest economy in the world really be ranked 49th in the country in per student school spending?

California's economy is the largest of any state in the US, and is the eighth largest economy in the world.[1][2] As of 2008, the gross state product (GSP) is about $1.85 trillion, which is 13% of the United States gross domestic product (GDP).[3] The state's GDP growth rate slowed to 0.4% in 2008 after having grown 3.1% in 2006 and 1.8% in 2007.[3] As of 2010 California along with Texas leads all other states in the number of Fortune 500 headquarters at 57 companies each.
