One Earth Farms Announces Partnership and Support for Inroads to Agriculture Institute
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, October 21, 2010 - One Earth Farms Corp. (“OEF”) is proud to announce its partnership and support to the recently announced Inroads to Agriculture Institute (the “IAI”). The IAI, a newly formed non-profit organization, will manage the $5.1 million partnership between the Governments of Canada and Saskatchewan, OEF and other industry partners, First Nations and training institutes. The IAI will offer practical agricultural training to Aboriginal learners so they can take up employment with One Earth Farms and other employers in the agricultural industry.
“We are excited about the prospect of employing individuals who have the opportunity to gain practical agricultural training through the IAI,” said Larry Ruud, President and CEO of OEF. “With our plans for rapid growth across the Prairie Provinces, we anticipate the need for a large number of qualified employees throughout all areas of our operations. Because of our strong relationship with many First Nations across the Prairies, we have set a priority on hiring qualified Aboriginal people who live on or near the First Nations lands that we are leasing.”
The IAI is funded through the Aboriginal Skills and Employment Partnership Program (the “ASEP”), a Government of Canada program that provides Aboriginal people with the skills they need to participate in economic opportunities such as agriculture, northern mining, oil and gas, and hydro development projects across Canada. The ASEP's overall objective is sustainable employment for Aboriginal people in major economic industries, leading to lasting benefits for Aboriginal communities, families and individuals. The IAI will focus on the agricultural industry and will create at least 104 long-term, sustainable employment opportunities in Saskatchewan’s and Alberta’s agriculture industries.
In order to ensure that these individuals are qualified, OEF will provide up to $990,000 of in-kind and cash support to various ASEP training programs. A major component of OEF’s in-kind contribution will come through the training of individuals using the Green Certificate Agricultural Training program where experienced OEF staff will provide practical, on-the-job training to Aboriginal trainees.
