Iris identification, by Sensar Inc.
".........As a person walks up to an ATM, three standard video cameras zoom in. First, they identify the approaching form as a person, then work together to fix the person's co-ordinates. From almost a metre away, they take an image of the person's eye and match the iris with an image already digitally encoded and kept in an electronic file. It takes two or three seconds. There is no need to stand still. In fact, the IrisIdent system expects to find what's called the Hippus movement, the constant shifting and pulse that take place in the eye. If there is none of this natural movement, the system will register the fact that someone is holding up a picture. The system works even when the customer is wearing glasses, sunglasses or contact lenses. There is no way to copy someone else's iris pattern using a contact lens, because contact lenses move around every time the wearer blinks. IrisIdent can even be used by many blind people, as the iris is often unaffected by blindness. ....................."
