Well it's been a process. For one home it was pretty mandatory (the island home not served by the grid) 18 years ago. My primary one just last year here in the Seattle area. (didn't have to but with the last grid outage a few years ago I bit the bullet since it cost 1/5th what it did twenty years ago. The big windstorm pushed me to do it.)

(I did all of the design and labor myself)

The funny thing is that the PV panels are now the cheapest part of the system cost when you look at the entire project.

It's come a long ways in the last ten years.

Now if we can just get the rest of BOS costs down...
