I was recently approached by Verengo to put PVs on my roof and then I would pay .02 less per kwh than the LA DWP price.

I didn't like the idea for a couple of reasons
1. I want to be off the grid like you.
2. They don't do battery banks to store the energy, the house would draw power from the grid at night.
3. Batteries were verboten because in order to sell the surplus power back to LA DWP there can't be another power source that would put current on the grid in the case of a blackout.
4. If there is a blackout, even during the daytime I wouldn't have power for the same reasons listed above for the batteries.

I guess it sounds like you aren't completely off the grid if you are selling back surplus energy. How did you get around the no battery thing? Are you similarly stuck with no power if there is a blackout?
