The HP Slate 500 design has some telling features and omissions. In particular, and rather surprisingly for a tool being framed for the business end user, there is no "wired" Ethernet port. How telling is that, in terms of where the world is going? And for enterprise applications, in particular?
In my pursuit to gain a better understanding of the rationale behind this development (or lack of development, depending on one's perspective), I came across an interesting comparison between the Slate 500 and a newly released competitive tablet from PandaWill of China - which does support a wired Ethernet port, in addition to WiFi, as well as many other capabilities lacking in the Slate 500:
