Ted, > And since I've been asking for your opinion, why do you think men don't open up to other men?

I thought I already said it. Men are expected to be strong, to project an image of toughness. Emotional vulnerability goes against the grain.

That's not homophobia. That's just being a man, albeit one that is starving for some real fellowship.

Yes, but you said that you didn't buy the notion that men can't get close after childhood. You can't get close with another person if you can't show you're vulnerable. And why are men afraid to show other men that they are vulnerable? Last year, I was out with a group of guys and I mentioned I saw something on Oprah [when I was at the gym]. They went nuts.......real men [not gays] do not watch Oprah. Being strong, not showing emotion, not being vulnerable, not watching Oprah..... also suggest in our society that you not gay. Forget that that is not true.......but that's what many guys believe subliminally.

Hell, inode believes you can be talked into being gay.

Remember the theme song from "Cheers"?

Sometimes you wanna go
Where everybody knows your name,
and they're always glad you came.
You wanna be where you can see,
our troubles are all the same
You wanna be where everybody knows

Never watched Cheers.
