A village idiot could have told Boeing that building a plane globally was a formula for disaster. So much for the business acumen of the private sector.

Boeing 787 suppliers hold deliveries for 2 weeks

CHICAGO - Boeing Co. says it has stopped receiving deliveries of big pieces of its new 787 jetliner at its Everett, Wash., plant from a supplier in Italy.

The two-week pause is meant to give the supplier, Alenia, time to fix gaps in horizontal stabilizers it makes. That's the part of the plane's tail that looks like a wing. Boeing spokeswoman Lori Gunter says Alenia is adding shims to fix a gap in the stabilizer.

She said Tuesday that the latest slowdown will not delay the planned first delivery of the 787 early next year. Other suppliers were asked to slow deliveries while Alenia gets back up to speed.

This is the third time this year that Boeing has suspended shipments of 787 parts because of problems with components.
