Peter,
I'm flattered! Expert? Not really. Boy, I sure can't call a turnaround for the "SRAM companies". But, I will give an opinion on your other Q's.
1. Is SRAM oversupply crushing...? There might not even be one. Unfortunately, the bad hype about supply of DRAM may be pulling SRAM down with it. I would guess it is not nearly so bad for SRAM as DRAM. IDT's competition, I think, is mostly right here in Silicon Valley, so, they don't have to worry about Asian competition like MU does. Or, is Toshiba into SRAM? Don't know.
2. As far as Intel's Pentium plans, they have announced a Pentium Pro without the L2 cache in the package. It's to lower cost for their PC customers. They will continue to make the PPro with L2 also, for the workstation and server markets. This has to be good news for IDT. Intel's next MPU will be the P55C. The big deal here is it will pull multimedia processing power (audio, video) onto itself. (Look out CRUS). I don't know if it will have L2 cache on chip. Guess would be no because it needs to be low cost, again for PCs. If so, more good news for IDT.
3. I don't know about IDT's non-SRAM products. I do know that as things like mobile phones and cameras get more powerful, they will/already do have some SRAM content.
Look at that, I'm the techno-weenie again. Sorry, Tony.
I wish I knew when IDTI might turn. Like I said before, both their chips and customer service are very good. The stock is cheap. Hey, I'd buy a few myself!
