Those links produce articles based on the the standard "averages" approach. The folk who do that, typically, don't unpack the "averages" to get a serious reading of where the problems lie. Rather, their agenda is to do something to the system as a whole--more charter schools, use classroom test scores to decide salaries for teachers, and so on.

That's my point. You overgeneralized, sensationalized the problem. I'm not denying there is a problem. I'm simply arguing you can't get to solutions this way.
