I agree: that analyst downgrades/upgrades have little bearing on the long-term aspect of the stock price. A stock can go down in price which provides cause to the analyst to downgrade the stock. In contrast, a stock can go down in price and that gives cause to upgrade the stock because it is now so cheap.

Easy to justify on either side--like you said.
