Intel spokesman Bill Kircos said the company, which hasn't invested in Achronix, wants to see how its 22-nanometer process works in making products other than own. Both companies declined to discuss their financial arrangement.

Mr. Kircos said Achronix should account for significantly less than 1% of Intel's production capacity on the new process. But Intel is open to the idea of making chips for other companies besides Achronix, he added.
