Your point and those of a few others are valid and I don't mean to imply that Republicans have done well in all state and local areas because they have not. There are many states and municipalities that are in deep trouble because they have unfunded pension obligations and other run away spending - many of these have had both Democratic and Republican leaders in the past and it is always difficult to say which administration gets what percentage of the blame.

Instead of focusing on the problem children (like Illinois and California), perhaps we can learn something from focusing on those states and local areas that are doing things well and do not have the same financial problems? Not every state is near bankruptcy and not every state has put themselves in trouble with massive debt.
