There is something incredibly sad about China developing the fastest computer in the world. Nobody outside the USA has ever held that record before. I fear an avalanche as we slide down into third world status. Innovation and military power is all we have going for us.

Ditto for the Swiss Solar-Powered airplane.

Under Clinton, Silicon Valley and other innovative cos. were the favorites of a prosperous nation with $14 a barrel oil. Under 8 years of Bush, the old economy was favored and got all the tax breaks. Our innovation invented some nice toys, like the I Phone, but basic research, nearly all of which is funded by govt., went to hell in a handbasket. Elections do have consequences that can determine the fate of a nation. Bush said we needed more nerds, but the athletes at colleges still got all the money.

Obama inherited the Bush disaster, but he has done little except talk about education and becoming first in the world again. All of the money has gone to saving the Old Economy paper shufflers on Wall Street and the very old economy of family sedans in Detroit.

The best minds in the world still come the USA for education. I vote that when they arrive, we nail their feet to the floor of our laboratories. <G>
