REVISED FORECAST FOR WORLD CHIP MARKET

SHOWS GROWTH OF 6.7 % IN 1996, 19 % BY 1999

SAN JOSE --- Despite a poor first quarter, the global semiconductor market will expand by 6.7 percent in 1996, then return to double-digit
growth rates during the rest of the decade, the Semiconductor Industry Association announced today.

The spring forecast of the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS) projects that chip sales will exceed $154.0 billion this year, up
6.7 percent from the 1995 sales of $144.4 billion. The forecast, while lower than previous industry estimates, is significant because
global chip sales actually declined by 4.6 percent during the first quarter. The lion's share of this year's positive growth will surface
in the third and fourth quarters, the WSTS said.

Moreover, chip sales are expected to climb another 10.3 percent in 1997 to $169.8 billion, then increase 16 percent in 1998 to $196.9
billion. In 1999, the WSTS foresees a 19.1 percent growth rate as chip sales surpass $234.5 billion.
