Like I said earlier, phasing out the federal funding of NPR/PBS seems reasonable to me. Their legitimacy as non-profit/non-commercial entities is a separate question. The USA has a broad range of non-profit institutions that own income-producing assets like stocks, bonds, real estate, patents, etc. Under the current rules they can legally use that income for educational, charitable, religious, etc purposes.
