Yes, two different views. Working at a public company, as was my previous employer, I can tell you that if you ask our senior management what our #1 goal and responsibility is, they will answer "Increase shareholder value" which is a nice way of saying increase the stock price. Naturally, the way to do this is to grow the business but you are missing the responsibility of a public company if you do not think that mangement needs to be concerned about the stock price. Guess what happens in a public company if stock price is ignored? The board replaces senior management due to shareholder demand. No public company can "forget about the financial houses" because without them, the stock will flounder.
