Well, the one thing about democratic societies is the fact that, provided the process is fair and above board, THE VOICE OF THE PEOPLE IS HEARD AND MUST BE ACTED UPON.

You say that it's "a visceral reaction from folks who don't really grasp the bigger picture".
Well, that's your opinion which you are no doubt entitled to. But it may be a statement made when the result of the vote does not go the way you may have wished it to have gone.

No doubt there are others who believe that something "was accomplished tonight".
For the size of the swing to have been what it was in both the House of Representatives and the Senate there must be a lot of unhappiness and dissatisfaction with the way things are at the present time.
Of course, one could debate for ever and a day who caused what and why, and what should have been done about it, and what should now be done about it, etc.. etc.. etc..

There are no easy answers and solutions to the current state of affairs. It will take honest and earnest endeavours by ALL concerned politicians and experienced citizens to work towards a more equitable and viable economic society in the USA to ensure a better future for ALL.

The last thing that the US needs is for anyone to be sticking wrenches in the works and playing politics for politics' sake.

Unfortunately there will always be those politicians who forget that they are where they are to SERVE the public and not for their own personal benefit and aggrandizement.
Hopefully it will be at times such as these that the voting public will recognize who they are, irrespective of which party the politicians may belong, and replace them with better serving individuals.
