The Interstate Highway System added value to society and is responsible for job creation. The network of rails did the same thing. However, I don't see adding another transport system doing the same thing unless we are looking at current needs. Currently we don't need to transport humans in a new fashion but we do need a network to transport energy to population centers in a new fashion. We have vast natural gas resources and we have the ability to construct wind energy resources on the plains. Wind alone has been estimated as having the potential to provide 60% of our energy needs but we are currently unable to transmit the energy from plains wind farms to population centers.
