The left is always wanting to slash the defense budget. I say fine, and let the slashing occur with the civilian bureaucratic workforce in DOD.

There are only two areas of the federal budget where reductions could provide meaningful dents in the deficit.. So called "entitlements" (SS and Medicare edit: add Obamacare to that) and defense. Politically difficult to make cuts in either of these.

Cutting any the rest of the budget, discretionary spending, pork, etc. is so much whizzing in the wind.

"Don't tax me, tax the other guy behind the tree". "Cut spending, but not my bennies"...

Good luck with the new Congress up against that..
