Although interferon-beta (IFN-ß) is an approved treatment for relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS), the molecular mechanisms by which this cytokine influences the disease course are unclear. Recent data have shown that IFN-ß works on several levels to inhibit the MS disease process; proposed mechanisms include inhibiting cell trafficking to the inflamed CNS, inhibiting antigen presentation and modulating the TH17 response. This poster provides an overview of these recent developments in understanding IFN-ß treatment of MS.
