Halcro urges newly re-elected governor to replace Alaska DNR leaders...

Alaska's Health & Economy: The Right Man?

First the Department of Natural Resources. This critical department has suffered for the last four years since former Governor Palin thought she was making some kind of a bizarre point by bringing back the same Commissioner that got fired just a year earlier.

In exchange for a new lease on life, DNR Commissioner Tom Irwin has gone out of his way to alienate just about every industry that develops Alaska's resources. From a ill thought out gas pipeline plan that has now locked the state into a relationship that won't produce a drop of natural gas, to lawsuits that have brought about a consistent ass whipping in court.

It's time to cut Irwin loose. In addition, send Rutherford, Galvin and the entire gas pipeline team packing. They had four years and failed miserably. In advocating for anti-development policies and tax hikes, they have pushed Alaska's competitiveness back a decade and have created a scenario where in five years the state will be in financial straights.

All in all, this is a department where the state is spending way too much on salaries for the return Alaskans are getting. These people are all overpaid, underworked and haven't a clue about the free market and how it works.
