whatever he did, and I presume he is guilty of "something" disgusting, he doesn't deserve what he got IF we are supposed to be a nation where our jails are designed for rehabilitation and reformation.
Of course that's not true as we all know, and this is just another high profile example of what happens daily and usually quietly in our prisons. While minorities may argue they are the subject of discrimination when it comes to lengthy sentencing, when abuse happens to some poor, black crack dealer, it doesn't make headlines. Whether or not they deserve to be beaten and abused is for another debate, but most of these people get released, and become your neighbor, grocery store shopper, or stranger sitting next to your unattended briefcase at a local bistro.
Just last week, 56 inmates at the Sierra Conservation Center in Ca., sustained injuries, six had to receive treatment at an onsite medical facility, and one was taken to the hospital because of puncture wounds to the chest. WHY?? In many cases the fact is that inmates are unnaturally packed into these prisons like sardines. What do we expect when we cut costs to that extent?
Just another day in HELL. God help us all when each one is released in YOUR neighborhood with such great life experiences. |
