It is likely that Canada has extensive shale, the Marcellus runs up to Canada, and there is the Laurentian shale in Quebec.

The Bakken, which is a different type of play, also runs into Canada.

I don't think anyone has yet looked closely enough at a large enough slice of geology. People have looked for oil, and gold, and uranium etc. but not really paid much attention to shale until the last 3-5 years.

The Canadian shield area in Ontario and Quebec is very old rock, and not likely to have much shale, but there is everything west of Thunder Bay, Ontario. Also New Brunswick, Newfoundland, etc.

>>> I will make a bet that there will be an announcement of significant NEW shale potential within 2 1/2 years in Canada. I will go further, and say that some of it will be within 1000 km of Canada's southern border - so it is not some Arctic fantasy for the 22 nd Century. <<<

By new I mean not Marcellus, Laurentian, or Bakken.

The other factor working in my favor - Canada has lots of really good geologists, geophysicists, drillers, and stock promoters ;-)
