Americans have a severely skewed vision of America's wealth distribution, and a surprisingly radical outlook on where the country's money should actually go.

If they think the distribution is different than it actually is, than their view of what would be a good distribution can't reasonably be seen as favoring radical wealth redistribution, its rather a misunderstanding of reality.

Even if they do understand reality, and would like to see a different distribution, that still doesn't imply support for redistribution. "It would be nice if things where more equal", is not the same as "I think we should take from the rich and give to the poor."

America's richest 20% have seen their share of the pie increase by about 4%

Mostly by them increasing the size of the pie.

while the rest of the country has gotten ever-smaller slivers.

No their slivers are larger, even if in some cases not as much of an increase as "the pie" has increased.
