Balloon angioplasty was invented by Gruntzig in Atlanta. Mayo Clinic is in Rochester, MN. I'll stack their "advances" against anybody elses on either coast. Many, many other examples (Cleveland Clinic, Barnes in St. Louis, Philadelphia Children's Hospital). The coasts are OK, but they're hardly the be-all and end-all of medical research (possibly the be-all and end-all of medical egotism, but that's a different kettle of fish).
