I don't think rational people classify large waves or any extraordinary natural phenomena in the same category as superstitions claims of the paranormal world. Waves are a part of the natural world. We don't need to imagine apparent impossibilities (such as in-corporeality or invisibility) in order to assess them.

Although scientists have studied for ghosts they have not been observed or detected. James Randi Educational Foundation continues to offer a million dollar challenge offering a prize of US $1,000,000 to anyone who can demonstrate evidence of any paranormal, supernatural or occult power or event, under test conditions agreed to by both parties. So far, no beings reflecting light (but having no substance to reflect light) have shown up to collect the money.

So I suspect they are like those rare monkeys with ten heads and snowball toes and coconut teeth--just excessively shy...
