Paul: I hope all these MORONS who think this "bug" is a big deal short INTC BIG TIME. They deserve to lose their last cent.
Thanks for today's chuckle.
Evidently INTC arouses strong enough emotions in people that they are willing to throw fact to the winds. Remember: you're in this to make money (right?), not to cheerlead for a company you've fallen in love with.
It is a bug, by any accepted definition of the word. It's not that big a deal for INTC, since tons of its CPUs get used to run Windoze '95, where it doesn't matter as much. But Pentiums also get used in multi-user, production environments, where security and reliability matter a lot. A bug that allows any malevolent process to halt the whole system, and that has no workaround, is kind of a big deal in these environments. Remember, the FP bug was never going to affect anyone but the tiniest minority of Pentium users. But when INTC took that position, they got creamed. We'll see what happens this time.
There is much room for reasonable people to have differences of opinion on these matters. On the other hand, disputing matters of fact, and thinking of those whose opinions differ from yours as "MORONS" who "deserve to lose their last cent", does not reflect well on you; more important, it can lead to poor investment decisions. |
