Then in the early 90s the bottom dropped out.......HW Bush defense cutbacks killed the S CA economy. And the area has never come back. In migration turned into out migration and its remained that way to this day. And the reason being the quality of life during the 80s had deteriorated due to Prop 13 and the environmental degradation that was happening with the air. Is something similar happening to FLA?

People are leaving, especially young people. Not sure what the total balance is. But I've said before the business of Florida is population growth. So many people were employed in real estate... builders, agents, title people, labor, suppliers, etc. When it crashed so did employment.

Funny we were talking about standard of living yesterday... it's just fine if you're working. You would think to read the news there would be homeless people everywhere, but it seems to me to be about the same as it was 5-10 years ago.

But attitude.... man everybody is SO negative. Homeowners with good reason... if the average person had a $200K house in '06 that is now worth ~$100k, well, it'll take that person an awful lot of years to save $100k from their paycheck. When you're struggling with a huge mortgage payment on an underwater house it's hard to feel smart or rich. Listen to right wing radio a few times and it's easy to know who to blame; "it's the governments fault", "it's Obama's fault", "it's the elites fault".
