I did not even consider that the aliens would seek a planet for its natural resources. That makes not much sense to me. Better, cheaper resources exist among asteroids and ice dwarves. And those rings! If Lewis Carroll had written "Alice in Hohmann Orbit" those rings would have EAT ME written on them.
I would be less afraid of planet raiders than of some fecund alien force eating the Kuiper belt away from us. In order to make the transition to a starfaring species, I suspect that we'll need the Kuiper belt. If a parallel may be drawn between a solar system and a metropolitan area, planets are the museum and arena. Asteroids and ice dwarves are the liquor&ammo stores and gas stations. This relativistic redneck knows which he'd prefer.
Criminey, is the "liberal" tag sticking!?
"Shewt, Jed, did you jist redshift on us?"
