I don't know what the administrative costs . . . The costs to administer social security are less than 1%. It's extremely inexpensive to do it. ssa-custhelp.ssa.gov. As for administering medicare, I don't have a link with me right now but it's much less than private insurers. By several factors. If I have time this afternoon, later, and you are still interested, I'd be happy to do another search.
