Hi Scott,

The sad fact is that the vast majority of the population knows absolutely nothing about how surveys are conducted or the very systematic and carefully planned ways that results are skewed well in advance of the actual survey.

A reasonably intelligent person armed with all the facts on how surveys are conducted could easily see where the results of most surveys are statistically meaningless. The problem is that those facts are never easily obtainable and by the very nature of statistics, the concept of average intelligence means that half the population is below average.

It's all about marketing. The guy with the best marketing wins.
