By putting deep spending cuts and substantial tax increases on the table, President Obama’s bipartisan debt-reduction commission has exposed fissures in both parties, underscoring the volatile nature and long odds of any attempt to address the nation’s long-term budget problems.

Jackie Calmes did that several times in the lead to this story in the NYTimes yesterday. Made the mistake of saying this was a report of the commission rather than of its co-chairs, speaking for themselves. Then buried in the story, she would flip back and forth between "panel reports" and "co-chairs" report.

I'm still making up my mind on Bowles' and Simpson's ideas here. If nobody posts the Krugman column today, which is about the report, I'll post it once I catch up. He makes some points that I want to read more about later, particularly should it get the 14 votes in the commission. Or look as if it might get a bit of political traction.
