The founders grew up in a land holding 2.5 million people and with more acres of unclaimed property than there were people, and where Dan'l Boone could go west looking for elbow room. Those days ended about 250 million people ago, when there were only about 50 M of us. Not too many deer left for trading to doctors for services rendered anymore. I reckon they never worried about getting caught on TV running a red light, and how that would play in the blogosphere. They did like slavery and the absence of women's sufferage, tho.
