"That's what Israel did following the attack on the Liberty, which, due to communications break downs, was where it should not have been during the Six Day War when it was taken for an enemy vessel. Check you facts. The Liberty was not supposed to be where it was, and both sides in the war were assured the US and a few other countries did not have forces near the war zone.

This version of events is so well documented, it is the first time there was ever an attack on a US vessel that did not result in a congressional investigation."

"A former Navy attorney who helped lead the military investigation of the 1967 Israeli attack on the USS Liberty that killed 34 American servicemen says former President Lyndon Johnson and his defense secretary, Robert McNamara, ordered that the inquiry conclude the incident was an accident.

In a signed affidavit released at a Capitol Hill news conference, retired Capt. Ward Boston said Johnson and McNamara told those heading the Navy's inquiry to "conclude that the attack was a case of 'mistaken identity' despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary."
