Give me a break

Why are you attacking me? Take it up with Newsweek magazine, which I believe is still a liberal publication.

Without meaning to be rude, though, I think you have outdated impressions of southern red states, including the quality of education they manage to give their kids. The other thing you're missing is that these states are attractive for businesses to relocate in because they are conservatively governed. Most of these states have Republican or Blue Dog Democrat governors and state legislatures. This means they are lower tax states and have less union baggage for new businesses to contend with. In other words a more receptive climate for business creation.

Times are changing, and perhaps you are clinging to stereotypes. Texas, for example, now has more Fortune 500 companies in it than New York. This has been coming on for a very long time. I live close enough to visit Dallas frequently through the years, and it has been growing like crazy since the mid 70s. This country has changed so much. The internet has made it so that someone like me can live in a small southern town and still be up to date on everything I might want to know about. The South is not trapped in ignorance like it once was.
