Yeah but us and US make the same stuff.. had Auto Pact and then Free Trade.. and >80% of our trade back then with US... not the same deal.. I agree the USD lower helps a lot for their sales.. and even better in more expensive currencies.. That is my point with Germany.. similar stuff.. US doesn't really compete in as many ways with China yet.. So USD YUAN not that important IMO.. USD Euro or USD YEN.. count a lot more...

US can compete by higher 'productivity'... which really means automation of those industries and fewer jobs.. US has many many years of issues to fix.. also if loonie goes to 1.20/USD.. we better hope that the resource industry can support entire country.. Why would US buy anything from us 20% higher.. except raw materials...

example.. look at how little Chinese 'middle class' earns.. US and Canada will never compete on labour with China for many years.. Even cheaper places now like Vietnam...

Think US workers would for for those wages ... can't... unless huge standard of living cut...

China and India not that big issues even 10 years ago... things changing faster now... Notice Canada has had trade DEFICIT for almost last two years with strong loonie.. rocks and trees not enough to keep us going IMO..

When I do work still it is niche business so I am OK ... just like you... and in demand skill.. not same for many though.. plus decent savings which I really live on now...

Just sayin' :O)

Time to walk the doggies...
