I can see something of value coming out of the current thinking that I could use when choosing from a short list of stocks I am interested in picking up for my daughters. I don't think choosing COP or MCD at the moment is a "wrong" decision. I plan to have them own both in the future. After choosing what I consider appropriate stocks ( that could be the first mistake ) a way to assess the current "choice". Using yield extremes would seem to go across different industries better than many other metrics. Since me and most metrics = vinegar and water, how to keep it simple?
