How to keep it simple ..

Good discussion ..

I have some money targeted to growth opportunities for
capital appreciation, some in fixed income investments,
and a smaller percentage in non traditional investments ..

However; for the dividend growth portion of my portfolio;
I'm firmly in the camp of the fewer decisions I make
the better my long term results are likely to be ..

I'm still filling out my positions, but once accomplished;
I'm taking a Darwinian approach to management ..

Here's my rule set ..

1) Equal dollar weight for initial investment
2) Sweep dividends and reinvest in existing positions
quarter end Jan/Apr/Jul/Oct
3) Sell if
a) no dividend increase for 10 quarters
b) company announces dividend cut
4) Redeploy proceeds from sales in new arrivals pool
on the Mergent dividend achiever list
5) Allow winners to run ie don't "prune" the winners

The $$$s will migrate over time to the winners ..
I'm not smart enough to know ahead of time which ones
they'll be .. I view my function as identifying and funding
the most likely future compounders as I have funds to make
the initial investment(s) ..

YMMV ..

Triff ..
