Spire Helps Launch Solar Fabrik's German Factory for Production of Photovoltaic Modules
Facility Uses Spire Turnkey Production Line
BEDFORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 11, 1997-- Spire Corporation (NASDAQ: SPIR - news) participated in the recent inauguration of Solar Fabrik's new photovoltaic module production factory in Friberg, Germany. Solar Fabrik is a leading photovoltaic system integrator and installer in Germany. The October 16, 1997 inauguration was attended by more than 150 government, business, and media representatives.
Spire installed its SPI-LINE 1000FM, a turn-key photovoltaic module production line, at the new facility. It includes the latest Spire equipment, such as the SPI-ASSEMBLER 5000 solar cell interconnect system, the SPI-LAMINATOR 580 module laminator, and the SPI-SUN SIMULATOR 660 module tester.
To reduce production costs, the manufacturing line utilizes a number of cost-reduction features, including high throughput equipment, increased process automation, and the ability to fabricate larger area modules. Solar Fabrik will now be able to address the rapid growth in the photovoltaic market beyond the current 100 megawatt per year level. Solar Fabrik will also be able to produce large area modules, up to 3 square meters, designed to penetrate the emerging utility and building-integrated photovoltaic markets.
Spire performs photovoltaic research and development and is the world's largest supplier of photovoltaic module manufacturing and testing equipment to the global industry. |
