The Softs Review
For the week of November 15th, 2010

We are going to have a look at the soft review for this week by Pitgugu Jurgens H. Bauer. Take note necessary information for your trading!

The entire soft complex appears to have ended an extended bullish phase and left behind formidable peaks this past week. Once it became apparent that the new highs (made early in the week) were failing and that a top was being formed, sellers took over and pressured values. Increased margin requirements and option expiration may have also served to quicken the pace. The combination of profit taking along with aggressive short selling was the case among most commodities, but especially some of the superstars among the soft complex. The highs reached in Sugar, Cotton and possibly Coffee all seem fairly distant now and unlikely to be threatened anytime soon. Any bounces will likely receive additional selling. One thing to look for, heading into the last full week before Thanksgiving, is for volatility levels to ease as prices either continue to slide or carve out fresh support and resistance levels. While skews may actually become favorable to the put side in a few markets as scrambling for down side positioning remains a force, any real stabilization should encourage volatility to relax. So for the week ahead anticipate a calming of sorts among the softs.
