One of the more highly regarding networking analysts on the street just confirmed in a private telephone conversation that CSCO's specific targeting of ASND is what has most damaged ASND's revenues and "visibility" and by extension, the stock performance. There appears to be so much confusion regarding just how far CSCO will go in putting pricing pressure on ASND (having publicly admitted their intention to go after ASND) that institutional holders have largely dumped the stock. The analyst's thought about the future is that this war will take about 2 quarters to play out, during which time the stock might not offer much in the way of return, as ASND is forced to drop prices in order to compete. On the other hand, I understood the analyst to imply that ASND would not necessarily reject an offer to be taken over. There seems to be no doubt that CSCO, COMS, and ASND may/will all be ultimately successful; the question, it seems, is more about the issue of time.
